The Phlebotomy Department is part of the Diagnostics Cluster of the Specialist Services Division and provides a venepuncture service for the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.
The phlebotomy team consists of over 30 phlebotomists. There are a minimum of 11 phlebotomists working on 26 wards throughout the hospital Monday to Friday. A smaller team covers weekends and bank holidays. The phlebotomy service provides venepuncture for most adult wards seven days a week including bank holidays. The team also serves the Medical Outpatient and Centre for Women’s Health areas 5 days a week.
The blood room is conveniently located near the main entrance in the Medical Outpatients area. The operating hours are from 09:00 to 16:45, Monday through Friday.
The service does not offer a routine walk in service for General Practice patients, although surgeries are welcome to contact the department to discuss exceptional cases.
Private patient bloods can be taken with prior arrangement.
