Nail specimens

Clinical information

Clinical information should include:

• Duration, location and morphology of any abnormalities
• Relevant prior therapies or systemic illnesses
• A list of potential differential diagnoses

Specimen submission

Nail specimens may be orientated with ink, sutures or affixed to a paper template.

Attaching small nail specimens to a piece of paper prior to placing into 10% formalin may help to facilitate correct specimen orientation during histological processing.
