Non-Urgent Specimens

Routine Hours

During routine working hours specimens can be sent via the pneumatic tube (POD) to station 2900.

Alternatively, there are regular collections by porters from all ward areas (via A2).

Quantiferon samples must ONLY be taken Monday-Friday; NOT on Weekends/Special Holidays and it is Critical for samples to arrive in the lab BEFORE 4:30PM on the day of collection due to sample processing requirements.

Out of Hours

Up until 10pm:

Specimens can be sent via the pneumatic tube (POD) to station 2900.

Alternatively, there are regular collections by porters from all ward areas (via A2).

After 10pm:

The POD station 2900 is not checked after 10pm. Please send all specimens to the high throughput
laboratory (A2) via the POD system (2912).

Between 10pm and 8am please ensure all Blood Cultures are sent via POD to A2 (2912.)

During this time there are no routine porter collections.

 

Urgent Specimens

Routine Hours

Prior to sending please contact the laboratory on ext 2962 (or via switchboard) so we know to expect the sample.

Specimens can be sent via the pneumatic tube (POD) to station 2900 – (DO NOT send CSF samples via the POD system)

Alternatively, arrange for a porter to bring the specimen to Microbiology (Old Pathology Building).

Out of Hours

Please contact the On call Biomedical Scientist via the switchboard so they know to expect the sample.

Arrange for a porter to bring the specimen to Microbiology (Old Pathology Building).

Alternatively specimens can be sent via the pneumatic tube (POD) to station 2900- (DO NOT send CSF samples via the POD system)
