The laboratory aims to comply with the Royal College of Pathologists Key Performance Indicator (KPI 6.4) for Cellular Pathology reporting turnaround times, with 90% of all cases reported within 10 calendar days.
Histology department turnaround time for 2023: 32,473 specimens, with average TAT of 9 days.
Urgent specimens.
Please submit urgent biopsy samples by 3.30pm (Monday – Friday) to ensure the shortest possible turnaround time.
Routine histopathology specimens.
All specimens are reported as soon as possible. Specimens requiring more complex investigation (e.g. large block processing, decalcification or referrals) may increase the time taken to report the specimen.
Please note: Unless otherwise requested, specimens will be discarded 4 weeks after reporting.
